Just finished The Silt Verses episode 41 and am now inconsolable at 3 in the morning with work in 6 hours. Yes I know better than to listen to The Silt Verses at bedtime, but the dark and the quiet and the lure of a new episode got to me.

And there's another one waiting. I can't afford another hour of wakefulness that might bring me to meltdown again. I am weak, but also exhausted. I think I can force myself to save it.

The thing is, it's not even the deaths that got to me. It's the millennia of lonely hungry suffering; and the hope of kindness, and a friendly face making the signs of their private languages, long forgotten. To remind them, even after all the centuries, that they were once loved.

I'm gonna have a pickle and some water before I give myself a cry hangover.

I need to watch more anime because it's a fun/easy way to improve at Japanese, but like 75% of shounen/shoujo anime doesn't appeal to me and the weird stuff I do like is usually only like 4-12 episodes or a single 3 hour movie. Agony forever 1000 years torment

We know from "what I like?" and "I'm the monster" that in season 1, El neither knows nor loves herself.

To have ANY relationship stay the same for her as it was in season 1 would be a disservice to her character, a statement that she has not, in fact, completely detached herself from that place.

In the finale episode, you demonstrate that you are not the same person you were then. If in season 1 she falls in love with Mike and in season 5's finale she's still with Mike in the same way, no visible to changes to someone watching out of context, they have failed at their job.

If El isn't supposed to be the same person she was when she fell in love with Mike, which we know to be true, then she should not have the same relationship with him either. To even be able to have a relationship that is identical to the one she had then would be to say that at least part of her is unchanged from the person that neither knew nor loved herself.

Mike and El could have been a slowburn that was achieved BY her learning to know and love herself.

It wasn't.

They fell in love when she didn't know who she was and thought of herself as horrible. You can only go downhill from there.

looking at my redone 10th doctor episode tierlist and i'm realizing that there is quite literally no such thing as too goofy. if it's goofy i quite literally do not care and if it's goofy enough that it becomes funny it gains extra points . the bad episodes are the ones where i don't like what's being done with the characters or they were boring for me to watch and the good episodes are the ones where i like what's being done with the characters and i had a good time. and also regardless of how overall well executed the episode is if there is a single scene in it that makes me cry it's shooting to the top . also btw the more i think about gridlock the more i think it absolutely bangs. hell traffic my beloved. giant crabs my beloved. story beat of seeing the sky of your home planet again (and how ten can never go home) my beloved. "you are not alone" being something that scares and unsettles ten more than it comforts him my beloved. entire last convo between ten and martha + the gallifrey monologue my beloved. gridlock my beloved

Not to dig up and defibrillate an almost sixteen year old drama at this point but when you watch back early revival Doctor Who back to back as a television show instead of a delirious multi-year childhood fandom experience it becomes harder and harder to avoid talking about the way the show and the fandom treated Martha Jones as a character being the major reason people don't remember that the series she was in is 100% the best series of the RTD1 era and it's not remotely fucking close.
